The situation: I'm currently in Plano with no hardcore graphics card but that didn't wane my burning desire to play league of legends. like I do every night.
The dilemma: My vaio insisted its video card (Nvidia GeForce Go 7400) was updated...the video card dated 2006, version 97.35. In fact, there were over 100 updates in between the 2006 v97.35 and the correct 2009 one, v179.48 according to the Nvidia website. [they stopped updating this driver 2 years ago :( ]
More potholes: Even after dling the v179.45 driver, the setup failed because it could not recognize the hardware. This is apparently a well-known problem for Sony Vaios. Vaios and Nvidia drivers do not like to acknowledge each other's existence.
The solution: required replacing the original INF file with a modded one so that things can be civilized again. This in turn required me to understand:
-what an INF file is (stands for setup information file and tells the setup program where to find individual files and do its thing)
-what the modded INF file is (really just some copy/paste action and line editing)
-how to replace one with the other (more copy/paste)
-how to install the new and improved (and non-certified) driver manually
Thank you laptopvideo2go.com for calming my fears, complete with pictures. I now have a LoL-capable laptop, and it only took 1 hour. *pat on back
Now...anyone up for a game? =3
haha I have no idea what my graphics cards do... proud of you!
