HRW: Pappa's Bros. Steakhouse

We nabbed a seat on one of the last days of the month at one of the most popular restaurants in Houston. Pappa's bros steakhouse is rated to be #1 in town, perhaps in Texas, so we were curious to see if it lived up to the hype.

On the outside, the setting was amicable, equipped a bit of snazz like restaurant on a cruise ship. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and warm welcome upon our reception.

Inside, the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate. It was very similar to the Del Frisco's in Dallas with its muted lining and mahogany seats. I have to give kudos to our waiter Casey and the manager (sadly, forgot the name). When we asked whether certain things had dairy in it, they were keen to address any potential food allergies. They explained every part of our menu and ingredients that use butter or dairy of any sort. It was definitely a level of service that was much appreciated (if not expected, at this fancy joint) on our end. They nixed the buerre without compromising much of the flavor, and Chado enjoyed his meal happily.

Bread was split into quarters - a little too big of a portion. I asked for olive oil and balsamic vinegar and that was met with speed and quality.

For the appetizer, I ordered a house salad which was topped with bacon and had the most delicious avocado-ranch dressing. The avocado made the dressing extra creamy without being too fattening. The greens were fresh but I didn't care for the bacon.

They were attentive to our pacing and between dishes, our tables were cleaned of its crumbs. Both of us ordered the filet mignon with a jumbo shrimp. Mmm, the steak was super thick and a medium-rare was perfect. The steak melted in my mouth and ooh, it was divine! The shrimp was also succulent and well seasoned. Haricot vertes and mash potatoes were served along with the entree. Because of Chad's dietary restriction, we ordered an extra side of potatoes that were cooked on a iron skillet with caramelized onions and bacon bits. Mmmm!

Desserts were also generous in portions. I ordered a chocolate silk pie and my favorite part of it was the bottom. I think it was pure oreo crumbs, and it was rich and dark.

Luckily they also featured a non-diary item, raspberry sorbet. It was creamy, tart, and well flavored.

We had such a good time talking about Audi R8's while sharing award-winning steak at a fraction of a price...this one will be hard to beat!
