My life appears to be centered around food...and that's a good thing. Because when there is food, there is company. Psst, we need to do this more often.
Tofu and pork
Estimated time: 15 min excluding marinating time.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb ground pork (I hand-chopped some pork tenderloin because of better texture)
- Soft or medium tofu - 1 block
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup oyster sauce
- 12 cooking or rice wine
- Sugar
- White pepper
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- Sesame oil
- 1/4 can of chicken broth (optional)
- dark soy sauce (for coloring, optional)
- Garlic, green onions
I don't have measuring cups, so these are estimates
Marinating the meat:
Pour soy sauce, cooking wine, vegetable oil, and oyster sauce in a bowl with your meat. Add 2 spoonfuls of sugar and 1 Tbsp white pepper. Mix and let it marinate at room temperature for 30 min.
Directions:
Heat oil to medium-high in a wok or a deep pan. Add mince garlic and when aromatic, add the meat. Stir fry for 1-2 min. (You can add some more soy sauce for more flavor.) Add 1 cup of water and let it come to a boil.
Cover the lid, and let it simmer at medium heat for 3-5 min. During this time, cut the tofu into small blocks. Add them to the meat and stir gently to coat tofu with the sauce. If you want, add a splash of dark soy sauce. Cover the lid and let it simmer for 2 min.
Add a little bit of water to a small bowl and dissolve the cornstarch in it. Add it to the tofu and meat and stir gently until thickened. Turn off the heat and add a few drops of sesame oil. Transfer it to a bowl and garnish with some chopped green onions.
