What to do when your kitchen catches a small, burgeoning fire:

1. Pour water to control the fire (unless you got a fancy fire extinguisher)

2. Run and close all internal doors in the house.

3. Open all windows/doors to vent the smoke.

Talk about a rude awakening. A working smoke detector is indeed a lifesaver.
