As we reflect our times past, a friend likens the Asian high school experience to that of the Olympic games. The competition, the expectations, and the fact that once you've stopped the routine, it is infinitely hard to get back on track. I found great humor in this comparison, so I decided to capitalize on it.
To represent the 5 core constituents...
With overloaded schedules, we tried hard and met with hurdles daily....
Struggling to stay at the top, we at times got reduced to numbers.
Indeed, we disciplined our minds to solve equations even in our sleep...
And while we stressed about applications of all sorts,
...there were always some things that escape us. But after more hard work and effort,
We had honored our parents. But what about ourselves?
With 5 more months to go before graduation, putting these times into perspective has made me realize how much I've grown in college and how much more I have yet to discover. Do what you love and love what you do. We each hold a bubbling stream of ambitions and visions, so work hard for that competency in what you aspire.
(P.S. Respect for the athletes.)
